What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is scrambled Latin text derived from Cicero's "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (45 BC). It has been used as placeholder text in typesetting since the 1500s, and became standard in the digital era when Aldus Corporation popularised it in PageMaker software in the 1980s. It's used because it has a natural distribution of letters, making layouts look realistic without distracting readable content.
Why use Lorem Ipsum instead of real text?
Placeholder text lets designers and clients focus on layout, typography, and visual hierarchy without being distracted by the actual content. Real text can cause reviewers to read instead of evaluate the design.
Is Lorem Ipsum actual Latin?
It's derived from Latin but is intentionally scrambled and meaningless. The opening words "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" come from a passage in Cicero's work about ethics, but have been altered to remove coherent meaning.
What does "Start with Lorem ipsum…" do?
This option forces the first sentence of the output to begin with the classic "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit…" opening. Disable it for fully randomised text throughout.
When should I use <p> tags?
