GPA formula
Weighted GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits. Each grade maps to points on the 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0, with +/− modifiers (e.g. A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3).
FAQ
How is GPA calculated on the US 4.0 scale?
GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all the results, and dividing by the total credit hours: GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits. For example, an A (4.0 pts) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0 pts) in a 4-credit course gives (12 + 12) / 7 ≈ 3.43.
What is a good GPA?
A GPA of 3.5 or above is generally considered strong (Cum Laude range) at most US universities. A 3.7–3.9 qualifies for Magna Cum Laude and 3.9–4.0 for Summa Cum Laude. Many graduate programs require a minimum GPA of 3.0.
How do I use the UK grade converter?
Select your UK degree classification from the dropdown — First Class, Upper Second (2:1), Lower Second (2:2), Third, or Pass — or enter your percentage mark. The tool converts it to the nearest US 4.0 GPA equivalent using standard cross-system conversion tables.
Can I add more than three courses?
Yes. Click the + Add Course button to add as many rows as you need. There is no limit. Remove individual rows with the × button, or reset everything with ✕ Clear All.
